HOOVERSPEED ANNOUNCES 2007 MAZDA MX-5 CUP TEAM

San Francisco, CA (01.02.07): Hooverspeed, the leading west coast builder of Spec Miata race cars, is proud to announce a 6 car effort for the 2007 SCCA SIRIUS Satellite Radio Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by Hankook! Led by team principal Jason Hoover and managed by 17-year racing veteran Tony Silva, Hooverspeed has partnered with a championship winning team of drivers to create what is sure to be a strong force in the series.

Introduced in 2006, the SIRIUS Satellite Radio Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by Hankook series is designed to provide an affordable, entry-level professional series on a nationwide scale and features identical Mazda MX-5 Cup cars prepared with a spec racing kit available through Mazdaspeed. It’s a recipe for some of the closest sportscar racing in motorsports today. All 8 races will be broadcast on SPEED TV and receive extensive coverage in print and online, providing excellent exposure for drivers and marketing partners alike!

Hooverspeed boasts a consistent  foundation of success in the SCCA club racing arena, having worked with some of the best drivers in the country to prepare dominating racing machines. In the San Francisco Region SCCA Spec Miata series, widely regarded as some of the most competitive racing in the nation, Hooverspeed’s drivers accounted for more half of the top 10, including the overall points winner. In national competition at the 2007 National Championship Runoffs, two of the three podium spots were occupied by Hooverspeed machines! Looking to expand on that success, Hooverspeed is poised to bring the same level of domination to the SCCA Pro arena.

Any successful racing team starts with a great car builder, but finishes with excellent drivers. To that end, Hooverspeed has put together a stellar team lineup of successful race pilots for the MX-5 Cup effort. Matt Cross, San Francisco's SCCA National driver of the year and 3rd place finisher at the 2006 Runoffs, professional driver and Mazda racer Johnny Kanavas and regional stand-out and entertainment industry veteran Kevin Baillie will form the set of team drivers.

The team’s remaining cars will be available for race rentals and guest celebrity drivers yet to be announced. There are still seats available to funded drivers for a number of races, so please contact Hooverspeed with inquiries for arrive-and-drive opportunities!

Hooverspeed is actively seeking marketing partners for the series, offering a unique array of benefits. Please contact us for a full marketing information packet.
